You’re making your hostility too obvious,” Lazaro reprimanded. As Hatasuko stood on the shimmering surface of the fourth isle of Aether, he forced his face to relax so that he could hide his fury. The wet rock surface of the island glistened in the starlight, though a shadow revealed the opening to a cave behind Caelicola. Hatasuko towered over him because of his monstrous size, but he stood at a short distance so that he would not intimidate Caelicola. Tiny trickles of water rolled down the gradual slope of the volcanic island. Steam lifted from the sea in the background and glowed from the light of the stars in the sky.             “I have seen it all. I must commend you for a job well done, Hatasuko.           A World without Misery (Interitus 1: Book 0)             Chapter Twenty-Four – Imaginary Friend               The chorus of screaming voices roared on endlessly in the depths of his mind. Their shouts of agony swirled in his head so quickly that he could feel their wind on his face just as concretely as he could feel the soft sand beneath his body. Though the voices were mostly incoherent, and those which were coherent endlessly echoed the same hopeless shouts, Hatasuko listened carefully to the tempest. He analyzed every voice and investigated every word, desperately searching for Vaida. Every time a woman’s voice yelled anything at all, he felt a surge of hopeful adrenaline, but then the misery quickly settled back in as he came to realize that the voice was not hers. The voice was never hers. He knew that it was a hopeless twist of fate for him to now dig deeper into the abyss, since he had always tried to ignore it in the past.
